What is Panim el Panim?
Panim el Panim is an amazing opportunity to spend four days in Washington, DC exploring public policy, politics, community service, and activism through a Jewish lens. Together with your group, as well as with dozens of Jewish teens from across the United States, you will learn how to make a difference in your home community, this country, and around the world. Before coming to Washington, your group will select one of Panim el Panim’s two fascinating tracks:

Who is Eligible: 10th -12th grade students are eligible for Panim el Panim.
How do I sign up? All students must come through an organized group. Check with your local JCC, Federation or synagogue to find out if they are organizing a Panim el Panim delegation. Applications and other information you need will be available from your local organizer. Contact panim@bbyo.org with any questions or to learn which organizations in your area are sponsoring a trip to Panim el Panim.
Will I have to miss school? Panim el Panim is usually held Sunday-Wednesday throughout the academic year. Unless groups come during a school break, participants will have to miss two or three days of school.
If you need to miss school to attend, PANIM will provide your group organizer with a letter to school officials excusing your absence and describing the educational value of Panim el Panim. PANIM staff is also available to speak to teachers and offer ideas for makeup work.
Is college credit available? While you do not receive college credit from PANIM, Panim el Panim looks great on a college application!
Is PANIM affiliated with a Jewish denomination or political organization? PANIM is a ‘trans-denominational’ organization. There are students of all levels of Jewish observance on our seminars. PANIM is not affiliated with any political party or organization. We present all sides and viewpoints on a wide range of public policy issues. It is up to you to decide where you stand on the issues.
How much does the program cost? Tuition is $595, which covers the cost of the hotel (4 students per room), 3 kosher meals a day, program fees, and all transportation during the seminar. Students or their sponsoring group are responsible for the cost of travel to Washington, DC.
Is there scholarship money available? Many students attend Panim el Panim with financial support from organizations and foundations in their home communities. Check with your trip organizer to see what's available in your area. PANIM offers scholarships to enable any interested student to attend. Where does the term Panim el Panim come from? The phrase Panim el Panim is from the book of Shmot (Exodus) in the Torah. Panim el Panim means "face to face," and refers to the encounter between G-d and Moses after the Israelites are released from slavery in Egypt.
"...the Lord spoke unto Moses face to face,
as a man speaketh unto his friend" - (Exodus 33:11).
As you spend four action packed days in Washington DC, PANIM brings you face to face with political leaders, activists, and Jewish teens from around the country. You will encounter communities in need, and witness many important social issues face to face. Most importantly, Panim el Panim puts you face to face with your own identity, as a Jew and an American.
